Treat the kids to some fun this Easter by letting them make some Easter ornaments. This is a very simple recipe that is easy to make and is very low in allergens so is great for kids with allergies or coeliacs. For coeliacs or kids with wheat allergies you can substitute the plain flour for a gluten free all purpose flour such as Orgran all purpose flour to make gluten free dough. This is a great recipe and fun especially for those kids that are allergic to eggs. These kids cannot do the traditional egg painting as even slight contact with an egg can set off a reaction.

Go on and make these Easter ornaments with the kids for the dinner table, to hang in a window or on a tree. Don t forget this dough is NOT edible…make it nice and bright or Easter pastel shades, also divide dough into 2-3 batches and do lots of colours.

Ingredients:
2 cups plain flour or for Coeliacs/wheat allergies use Orgrans Gluten Free All Purpose Flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
Food Colouring coloured to your childs liking…or children can paint the plain dough after baking.
Paper clips or skewers

1.	Mix flour, water and salt together until smooth but stiff, separate dough and mix in colours (or leave plain).

2.	Roll out with a rolling pin and cut out EASTER letters or Easter designs such as carrots, eggs, ducks, chicks or rabbits.

3.	Push a paper clip into the top of ornament so they can be hung up. If the hole closes after baking it can be quickly re-opened by using a skewer or chopstick to widen the hole.

4.	Bake at 160oC for 2 hrs or until hard. Cool and paint.

Have a happy Easter.

Coeliacs will also find our website useful as they can shop for gluten free food.

General Knowledge for Kids Quiz
By Jennie Gandhi

Kids in the 21st century are far faster than their counterparts from the 20th century. They are very well aware of their surrounding and alert on the latest happening. Unlike how parents had to force children to know the current affairs, children today are well informed by the media. Not only in fashion also in trends but also in games, politics and careers.

Hence when parents induce children to take up general knowledge studies it hones their existing knowledge and they are trimmed to meet the challenging outside world.

General knowledge for kids quiz books are easily available on bookstands, shops and book depots in India. Infact you get a wide range of choice depending on your underlying requirement. So from current affairs to history, culture, languages, religion and more, general knowledge spans far and wide and can be addressed in the particular subject.

General knowledge quiz contests are regularly held in schools and colleges so that children have a reason to dig into GK books to learn and study what they have never heard of. These quizzes have even gone national with contests like the Bournvita Quiz contest that was held for school students across the country. It gives them an opportunity to look outside school textbooks that have a set curriculum to study.

For instance when they take up GK on history, children study not only emperors and queens that are easily found in textbooks, but they also study the culture and currency that existed then, the form of communication and transportation, how the economy survived and grew? What were the main occupations and how it evolved over a period of time?

As a child mind is like a bottomless pit there is no limit to the information you can fill it with. They devour everything they read and still have space for more. Once the child is interested in a particular subject, he or she can read the variety of books available. For instance if it is history they learn the weapons used, the type of metal, how it was formed, where it was found? Interest once developed can go a long way for the child. It can turn out to be fruitful as the child s career or at least as an eye opener.

Children love to increase their general knowledge, no doubt you can see them peering at the atlas or asking a whole lot of questions. You can help increase your child s knowledge by teaching them the Name, Place, Capital game. Where one from the group says all the alphabets while another stops the reciting and then everyone immediately pens - a person s name, country, and its capital with the letter that was stopped at, within a timeline. This helps build your child s geographical knowledge.

You can play similar games on different subjects, so your child has a healthy knowledge on varied subjects. Inculcating the habit to pick the newspaper and read is a good start for children. It helps them be aware of the political and socio issues.

For instance when at a party or a gathering if somebody pops a question to your son or daughter regarding the temperature of the city, he or she should not be dumfounded.

How To Tell A Test Quiz Before It Bites You On The Nose

Prom Theme Ideas
By Robert Reno

There are many prom themes ideas for your committee to choose. Deciding on a theme is one of the more important decisions your High School planning committee will make. Just keep in mind with prom themes there is room to add or subtract details. If you remember this, then you should easily be able to pick out prom themes ideas that a majority of the Junior Class students can agree on.

Prom Ideas

Are you trying to go for something out of the ordinary or keep it more relaxed? Your budget, resources, and creativity will establish the boundaries for any prom ideas. The budget can give you a sense of the location for the venue since these facilities will vary with price. If you are planning a Michigan prom, I recommend choosing a banquet hall on this list that is close in you area to reduce driving time (25 minutes or less). Some venues might make decorating more challenging, while others might spark your creative sense. The more resources your decorating committee has, the better. If you can make a majority of the decorations, or rent pieces at a discounted rate, this will save money and you will be able to allocate funds elsewhere. The disadvantage is that usually hand making decorations takes time and people. Usually this is feasible for high school prom themes that average 500 students.

Prom Themes

Now if you are brainstorming prom themes where the guest list is in excess of 1,000, then you will have to choose a bigger facility as well as one exceptional prom theme. Below are a couple of quick things to consider before we rattle off a list of prom themes ideas.

Are looking for something romantic?

Are you trying to match it with current trends?

Do you want something mysterious?

How much fun can you incorporate into the prom theme?

Prom Theme Songs for Prom

There are many popular prom theme songs for you choose from. I listed them below. These are just some of the theme songs for prom that your committee can use. Feel free to improvise if your theme varies with a more current song of choice. We also provided a list of other high school dance themes.

Picking a Prom DressBy Amber Lowery

Prom dresses are one of the main things on a teenage girls mind in the spring. They want the latest styles...
I recommend having your high school prom colors match the theme. This will give you dance more balance and keep things consistent with what students will be expecting. A couple of events based just on colors:

All White Party Prom Theme

Black and White Ball Prom Theme

How to Choose a Prom Theme

Which one should you go with? Do you need more help with how to choose a prom theme? Well, it is important that you avoid doing the same prom theme two years in a row. Also you should check with local high schools to make sure that you do not accidentally duplicate their ideas (this might create bitter feelings). Make sure you prom theme is achievable with the banquet facility you have chosen, and that resources for decorating can be found easily. Also order a variety of prom catalogs to give you an idea of what you have to work with. Lastly hyping your high school prom is extremely important (this will help improve ticket sales). Make sure to play the song, and remind students of the theme with any school announcements/pep-rallies. Working with you budget is important for planning a high school prom dance, but you also have to give the students what they want. What is that…. a great send off for the seniors and something that makes your freshmen and sophomores anticipation next years prom!

1. Take a dog for a walk. If you have extreme love for dogs, and you would not mind taking them for a short walk around the neighborhood, then you are fit to become a dog walker. Usually, dog walkers need to only work for a few minutes every day. In fact, you can have the luxury to pick your own schedule and the kinds of dogs that you want to take. You can also choose to visit the dogs yourself or have them delivered at your own doorstep. Regardless of your choice, however, you are in for a very great deal. As a matter of fact, you can charge from $15 to $20, for every visit. It can even go higher if you are only caring for one dog.

2. Clean someone else s garden. Do you have a green thumb, or do you have special talents in gardening? Now is the time to put your talent to great use. You can look around your neighborhood and ask families if they want their garden to be taken care of by you. You can actually customize your services. You can choose to just rake and bag leaves, toil the garden, plant the favorite herbs or vegetables of the house owners, or shovel. Your investment will also be at all-time low. You can simply purchase a pair of glove, rake, and shovel, and you are already good to go. If you this job right, you can earn as much as $100 per day.

3. Sell items on eBay. You have heard of power sellers and how they are now earning thousands or even millions of dollars every month just by auctioning items.

Great Part-time Business Ideas For Students
Moreover, just so you can minimize your expenses, you can opt to have the buyer shoulder the shipping costs. The good thing about eBay is that it does not really require you to spend a lot of time in front of your PC. As long as you know that you do have a market with your products, then you can certainly make it in this mega-auction site. Needless to say, though, because competition can be a little bit tough in eBay, you have to arm yourself with some basic tips. You can read them all over the Internet.

Indeed, being young does not really stop you from starting to become independent. Nevertheless, ensure that you can manage your finances wisely. If you think you need help in this aspect or even in choosing what kind of business to take, do not hesitate to ask help from your parents.

Children Drinking Alcohol to Excess
By David Forward

My opinion is simple, children simply need something to do. Many years ago before teenagers were invented, children left school early to take up jobs in the community and took an instant leap from childhood to working as proxy adults unless lucky enough to stay on and get useful qualifications.

The most likely types who would get into trouble on the streets today are those forced to remain on at school where they just cannot cope, they would most likely benefit hugely from training in practical subjects such as apprenticeships to the building trade and similar manufacturing trades but alas this country finds its self having lost the greater part of its heavy and manufacturing industries.

So we have children without money to spend and many hours of freedom on their hands after school and in the many holidays they get. Laws of the land prevent them from doing many jobs until they reach certain ages and much of the working world simply does not have vacancies for those still at school.

The parents of the street children if they are in work are often struggling in low paid jobs fighting inflation to pay ever increasing bills. They have had a long day at work and would love some time to themselves to relax. Therefore they can find it difficult to spend time with their children as there is no money left to spend on them and nearly every activity available to children costs money and often needs expensive travel costs to attend venues.

Its not enough for a tiny number to hang out in each others bedrooms as this often conflicts with other family members. Children need to meet in ever changing groups of varying size as their friendships evolve. Youth clubs can provide this facility to a minor extent but they are not open continuously as would be desired. They also are desperately lacking in sizeable premises with an abundance of activities.

Now if government wants to avoid spending vast amounts of tax payers money on the problems created by out of control children on the streets at all hours every day and night throughout the year right across the whole country. Then they should seriously invest hundreds of thousands of times the minute amount set aside for the yet non tax paying children.

It would in comparison be a drop in the ocean to what is wasted by incompetent fraudulent government ministers each and every day on their ill thought out pie in the sky projects. It would save the national health service billions of pounds wasted on the continual flow of drink related cases clogging up A&ampE and desperately needed beds wasted on drink induced diseased young people.

Prove me wrong but I think if we built very large youth centres with just about every activity imaginable available to have a go at and free transport provided to and from these places. Then there would be an enormous number of hidden talents emerging from the most unexpected children going on to put them into use throughout their lives. With so many resources provided for these places many being donations from local industry and involvement by the whole spectrum of society, I m sure all youngsters would soon feel a very respected member of the community.

Most of all I believe this can be done in many variations for less money than is wasted through bad practises and mistakes by government and the results would pay back all moneys currently wasted by all the authorities and emergency services currently fighting the problems created by disaffected youth and families on sink estates. The whole country could take a leap up the ladder of living standards with money being spent on the children of this country. Give children the desire to take part and they will pay back everyone with dividends.

Alcohol and College - Not a Great Mix

Tai Chi for Teens
By Carolyn Cooper

For most, the teenage years are a time of wanting to be noticed and accepted. That can cause anxiety, confusion, depression and low self esteem. Mood swings are very common with all the hormonal changes going on during the teen years. Tai Chi s regular practice is designed to help us realize that we are in charge of how we choose to react to what is going on around us. The truths found in the symbolism of the movements help us see that the way we choose to see the world is how it will unfold for us. The practice of Tai Chi gives us confidence and feelings of self-worth.

According to one study, Tai Chi players reported less tension, depression, anger, fatigue, confusion and anxiety they felt more vigorous and, in general, had less total mood disturbance. Perfect for teenagers!

Tai Chi integrates the mind, body, and spirit:

MIND–The movements of Tai Chi help the left and right brain hemispheres connect as they need to for clearer thinking. Regular Tai Chi practice improves mental concentration and focus. It brings the brain into a very calm, clear state known by scientists as the alpha state.

This state of mind is highly creative and productive. In fact, by just doing a few simple Qigong movements before school or before a test, job interview or class presentation, we can unblock the body s energies and get them flowing in a pattern that is very conducive to learning. It is also very beneficial for students with ADD/ADHD.

BODY–As far as the physical benefits, Tai Chi helps to integrate the skeletal and muscular systems. As the players move through the slow-motion movements, their minds become calm, their breathing deepens and slows and their muscles relax. All this happens while the muscles are toning, making it a very efficient workout.

It is also great for balance, flexibility and coordination. In addition, Tai Chi can boost the immune system, enhance the body s natural healing powers, increase breathing capacity, reduce asthma and allergy reactions, alleviate stress, increase energy level and lubricate the joints.

Tai Chi is a great complement to any sports program. It has been used in drug-abuse prevention programs, and it helps decrease aggressive behavior. Furthermore, since low self-worth is at the core of most eating disorders, Tai Chi s ability to raise confidence levels and harmonize mind with body can help with anorexia and bulimia.

SPIRIT–Tai Chi clears the communication between mind and body. Through its practice you learn to slow down. You learn to trust your gut and your own sense of intuition. I can t think of anything more beneficial for a teenager than that. To put it simply, the symbolism of Tai Chi and Qigong teaches us “in with the good, out with the bad.

After School Activities That Make Dismissal Time Worth Waiting For

I use a lot of symbolism when I teach. For example, one of the movements says “Yield and be strong.” This teaches us to be still and listen to our inner voice-that is where our strength lies. Another part I like to bring out is “Transitions can flow smoothly,” reminding us that just like the physical changes of the movements, the changes in our lives need not be frightening or difficult if we are rooted and grounded.

During the teenage years, there are many changes to go through. The smoothness of the movements mirror how we can go through changes in our lives. It teaches the importance of keeping a balance of strength and grace in our lives. Learning these lessons now will certainly benefit our youth throughout their lives.

Are You Ready For Prom? You Will Be Now With These Easy Prom Hair Styles
By Kristy Klien

Once you have finalized the gown, matching shoes and jewelry for your prom, it s time to think about your hairstyle. A beautiful prom hairstyle is bound to fetch you all the attention that you deserve on your prom night. Therefore, your prom hairstyle must compliment your outfit, your make-up, as well as your attitude on the prom day.

Remember, not every type of hair color or hair style would go with you, but there is certainly a look that would work for you. You should aim at looking not only beautiful on your prom night, but also more confident and comfortable in your new hair style. So, you must plan in advance if you don t want to miss this opportunity to look attractive and poised on your prom day.

You can choose a perfect prom hairstyle that goes well with your type of hair. Let s have a look at some of the most attractive yet easy prom hairstyles:

Long Prom hairstyle

For long prom hairstyle, first wash your hair and dry it. Then, start rolling your hair from the middle. Roll the rest of the hair using a SASSY curler. Once you have rolled your hair, you need to wait for at least half an hour, and then start unrolling the hair. If you want, you can make a pony tail and decorate it with your hair ornaments. That s an ideal prom hair style if you have long hair.

Short Prom hairstyle

If you have short, rough hair, which you may fine hard to curl, you use the prom hairstyle s described here. Shampoo and dry your hair. Use a DO-Z comb to part your hair in zig-zag style and use hair gel to soften your hair. Now, start rolling your hair using SASSY curler. Continue rolling until you have rolled the entire area you want to curl. Once done, let your hair dry for nearly half an hour. Start unrolling hair and arrange the curls the way you want by using a DO-Z comb. Finally, decorate hair using hair ornaments that go well with your dress.

Formal Prom hairstyle

Formal hair style goes with medium texture, long, and one-length hair. You need to mix small to medium sections of hair and start rolling your hair using hair curlers. Once done, let your hair dry for next half an hour, and then start removing the sassy curlers. Part the top section of hair and pin it up. Likewise, take the bottom section of the hair and roll it into a French twist. Use bobby pins to secure it at the right position. Now, back-comb the top section of the hair using a DO-Z comb and pin your hair. You must arrange the curls carefully and decorate it with appropriate hair jewelry.

Prom Hair Styles

Perhaps. Did you know that almost everything children learn during the early childhood years is accomplished through play? The toys your pre-schooler plays with are actually important tools in his or her development. And jigsaw puzzles are one of the best toys for a child s cognitive development. Most pre-schoolers really enjoy constructive play, especially building projects with a finished product at the end. That s why wooden toys like jigsaw puzzles and blocks are ideal for children at this age.

Many educators today agree that the skills needed to complete a jigsaw puzzle are fundamental. The humble jigsaw puzzle can help stimulate your child s concentration and logical thinking processes. Jigsaw puzzles can teach reasoning and problem solving skills as well as hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.

If your child is a kinesthetic learner, he or she will derive even more benefit from jigsaw puzzle play. Kinesthetic learners do best when there s lots of hands-on activities involving touching, forming or shaping things with their hands as a part of the learning or problem-solving experience.

Besides being loads of fun, jigsaw puzzles can help your children develop their ability to pursue and achieve objectives. Since solving a jigsaw puzzle is an activity a child can easily share with friends, siblings or other family members, it s also a great way to introduce your child to team activities where more than one player is working toward a common goal.

What s more, jigsaw puzzle play can easily facilitate a broader learning experience. Whether it s a pre-schooler just learning his colors or a fifth grader learning about the cosmos, the subject matter and difficulty level of the puzzle can assist and reinforce a pre-schooler in learning colors or an older child in learning the planets in the Milky Way.

Puzzles are also great for seniors. It s a low-stress, yet highly effective way for seniors to help keep their cognitive abilities sharp as long as possible. Jigsaw puzzles can be fun and beneficial for just about everyone.

Using Jigsaw Puzzles To Enrich Your Child

Everybody knows playing outside is fun and very good for our children. Outdoor play is the part of our childhood we will always remember and cherish fondly the memories of past summers playing in the garden.

Unfortunately in this day and age we cannot send our kids of to the park to play on the swings or in the woods climbing trees like we did in our day, every parent wants to know our children have lots of fun and adventures yet at the same time keeping and eye on them to ensure they are safe at all times.

It is now very common and a fantastic idea for parents to make the back garden a mini adventure area for our kids to have fun in safely. Many go for metal swings and sometimes a slide. Unfortunately metal play equipment such as these are not as safe or visually appealing to our kids as more popular wooden structures, more specifically wooden playhouses.

There are quite a number of benefits to installing a wooden playhouse or other wooden equipment over their metal counterparts.Wood heats up a lot better than metals or plastics so kids can play outside even on chilly mornings without the cold effecting their grip or fun. Metal and plastics can heat up a lot more in the hot summer sun whereas wood can stay at a comfortable temperature meaning your kids won t be at risk of burning their hands on the metal or plastic handles.

Wood is a lot more natural to your gardens surroundings and wont need painting. Metal play equipment often comes painted but usually with cheap paint that will peel off very easily leaving the structure ugly and in need or more care and attention than wooden ones.

Wooden playhouses and play equipment is very easy to look after and can be assembled very easily. They come in many different varieties such as playhouses on stilts, tree houses or just houses that sit on the ground. They are easy to build onto when your kids start to grow and want bigger play areas and are easily used to add onto such as swings, slides or climbing frames.

The best part of a wooden playhouse is its sturdiness, as a parent we always want our kids to be playing in a safe environment. Wooden playhouses can last for years with very little maintenance which in the long term can save you a lot of money.

Today it s hard to imagine a world without our much loved and loyal friend, the teddy bear. The teddy bear has only been with us for just over 100 years, making his first appearance in 1902. Then, in one of those impossible to explain coincidences, the teddy appeared in the same year on opposite sides of the world - in Germany and the USA.

In America, the teddy bear came into being with a cartoon showing President Theodore Roosevelt refusing to shoot a baby bear. According to this tale, Roosevelt had traveled to Mississippi to help settle a border dispute between that state and Louisiana, and while there, found time to go bear hunting. There were no bears to be found, but his hosts were desperate that he should have a good time. So eventually someone captured a bear and invited Roosevelt to shoot it. Roosevelt s refusal to fire at such a helpless target inspired the famous cartoon with its message regarding the two ways Roosevelt was drawing a line, ie settling a border dispute and refusing to shoot a captive animal.

The cartoon caused an immediate sensation and was reprinted across the USA. It inspired Morris and Rose Michtom of Brooklyn, New York, to make a bear to commemorate their president s actions and they named it “Teddy s Bear.” It was placed in the window of their New York candy and stationery store. Instead of looking fierce and standing on all four paws like earlier toy bears, this bear looked cute , innocent, and honest, like the bear in the now famous cartoon. That could be why “Teddy s Bear” became so popular with both adults and children across the country. In fact, the demand was so strong that the Michtoms, with the help of a wholesale firm called Butler Brothers, established the first teddy bear manufacturer in the United States, the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company.

At the same time, but on the other side of the Atlantic, in Germany, a young man by the name of Richard Steiff was working for his aunt, Margarete Steiff, in her stuffed toy business. Richard often visited the Stuttgart Zoo to sketch animals, particularly the bear cubs. In 1902, the same year the Michtoms made “Teddy s Bear,” the Steiff firm made their first toy bear based on Richard s designs.

Over the next 100 years the teddy bear went from strength to strength and whilst other toy crazes came and went, the bear remained an enduring favourite with generations of children across the world. The bear is loved by adults too, for his or her endearing, loyal and friendly nature. These characteristics are obvious in the latest generation of bears, those pictured on the <a href="http://www.

Teddy Bears - a Brief History Lesson
